Frequently Asked Questions
What is the accommodation at Beaufront Castle like?
Beaufront Castle is a magnificent 17th-century Gothic Revival mansion, set in peaceful countryside just outside Hexham. It’s exclusive, elegant, and full of character—think high ceilings, grand staircases, and stunning views from every window. It's the kind of place where you can truly unwind after a day on the trail.
What is the cost?
– £1,480 to £2,105 per person, depending on your room type and whether you choose single or shared occupancy.
How are the rooms allocated?
Rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If you're coming solo and would like to share, we’ll match you with someone if possible. If you’d prefer your own space, single occupancy options are available for an additional cost.
What’s not included?
– Travel to/from the event
– Alcoholic drinks (can be pre-ordered)
– Personal snacks
– Hiking gear
– Travel insurance (required)
Is there a training plan to help me prepare?
Yes! A personalised training plan is included as part of your booking. We’ll send it out well in advance to help you build stamina, get used to walking with a daypack, and prepare for the terrain. The plan is flexible and realistic, whether you’re already active or starting from scratch. We also include a prep session and practical tips to make sure you feel confident and ready.
What’s the group size?
We keep the group size small—usually between 4 to 12 participants—to ensure a personal, relaxed experience and allow everyone to connect. A minimum of 11 is required for the castle stay.
How do I book?
A £100 deposit secures your place. You can choose a 6-month or 10-month payment plan starting the month after your deposit. Full payment is due by 1 August 2026.
Is there a group minimum?
We need a minimum of 8 women to stay in the castle. If numbers fall short, don’t worry — we have Plan B ready. This includes hand-picked B&Bs, hotels, and a three-night Airbnb stay near Hexham (with a hot tub!). You’ll still be able to take a rest day if needed, and luggage transfers are included, plus all meals.
What happens if plans change due to weather or safety?
We’ll adjust the itinerary as needed for safety or comfort, and keep you informed of any changes. Be prepared to walk in the rain, wind or sunshine.
Do I need to know how to navigate?
No navigation skills needed—we’ve got that covered.
This is a fully guided experience, so you won’t need to read a map, follow a GPS, or worry about missing a turn. Your guides (Katie and Claire) know the route inside out and will lead the way each day, sharing stories, support, and local insight as you walk.
Is this suitable for all fitness levels?
You should be prepared to walk 84 miles over six days (14-15 miles per day). The experience is supportive and non-competitive, but does require preparation. We provide a training plan, but you are responsible for your fitness. Please consult your doctor if you have any concerns.
Can you cater for dietary requirements?
We will do our best to accommodate most dietary needs and preferences, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options.
Please let us know your requirements when you book—or as early as possible—so we can plan accordingly with our accommodation and catering partners. While we can’t guarantee every request, we’ll work with you to find suitable options and make sure you’re well looked after throughout the walk.
Are there any optional extras?
Yes! Depending on group interest, we can organise a range of optional add-ons to help you unwind, recover, or just enjoy something a bit different after the walk.
Options may include:
– Yoga sessions
– Sports massage
– Cold plunge and sauna
– Local beer tasting
These extras are entirely optional and available at an additional cost. We’ll share what’s on offer closer to the event and take bookings based on interest.
Who are the guides?
Your guides for Women Walk the Wall are Katie and Claire, co-founders of Curius Compass and passionate about creating meaningful, memorable experiences for women in the outdoors.
Both are experienced long-distance walkers with a deep love for Hadrian’s Wall, local history, and storytelling. They’re Outdoor First Aid certified, and bring a blend of calm confidence, encouragement, and good humour to every step of the journey.
How are the rooms set up at the castle?
The castle has four wings, each with two guest rooms and either a shared or ensuite bathroom. You’ll stay in either a kingsize room or a twin room with two single beds, depending on your preference and availability.
There’s a mix of shared and private (ensuite) bathrooms, and we do our best to accommodate any requests when it comes to sharing arrangements.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes — we offer interest-free payment plans over 12, 10, 6, or 3 months (depending on when you register). Simply pay a £100 deposit and we’ll set up a plan that works for you. You can even choose the date each month that suits you best.
What are the dates?
The full event runs 13–20 September 2026.
Walking takes place 14–19 September, and guests stay seven nights at Beaufront Castle, with arrival and welcome dinner on the 13th and departure after breakfast on the 20th.
How far is the walk, and what is the terrain like?
You’ll walk the entire 84 miles of Hadrian’s Wall Path over six days. Terrain includes footpaths, hills, fields, stiles, gates, uneven ground, and stretches of country road. A personalised training plan is included to help you prepare.
What’s included in the experience?
– 6 days of fully guided walking
– 7 nights accommodation
– 7 breakfasts, 6 packed lunches, 6 evening meals and 1 celebratory dinner on the final night
– Pick up and drop off at start / end of experience to nearest transport hub
– Daily transport to/from trailheads
– Support vehicle

Do I need a guidebook, and which one is best?
You don’t need a guidebook — but if you’d like to do your own research, we recommend Hadrian’s Wall Path by Paddy Dillon (Cicerone Press). It’s compact and easy to carry, with plenty of background, route details, and historical insight. A great companion whether you’re walking the trail with a guide or on your own.
What’s the cancellation policy?
– Cancel by 13 March 2026: full refund
– Cancel by 22 July 2026: 50% refund
– After 22 July 2026: no refund
If Curius Compass must cancel, you’ll receive a full refund.
Can I transfer my booking?
Yes. You can transfer your place to another woman until 22 July 2026, with a 20% admin fee. Email us to arrange this.
Do I need insurance?
Yes. You must have valid travel insurance that covers walking activities and cancellation.
Will photos be taken?
Yes. Photos and video will be taken throughout to create a personalised highlight reel for each guest. Images may also be used promotional purposes. Let us know on arrival if you’d prefer not to appear in them.
Should I bring my own trail snacks?
We provide daily packed lunches with a mix of tasty, energy-boosting items—but you’re very welcome to bring your own favourite trail snacks too.
We’ll also pass cafés, tearooms, and snack stops along the way, especially near popular sections of the trail. If you’d like to treat yourself to a hot drink or extra bite, bring both cash and a card—not everywhere accepts contactless.
What will I need to bring?
We’ll send you a full kit list well in advance, but here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need for the walk:
Essentials:
– Comfortable, broken-in walking boots or shoes
– A daypack (20–30L) with good support
– Water bottle(s) or hydration bladder (minimum 1.5–2L total)
– Weatherproof jacket and trousers
– Layered clothing for changing conditions
– Sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
– Warm hat/gloves (yes—even in September!)

– Lightweight sit mat or waterproof layer for rest stops

Optional but useful:

Luggage transfers are included, so you only need to carry your day essentials—we’ll handle the rest.
What’s the expected group dynamic?
Respect and encouragement are central. We aim to create a supportive, inclusive, and safe environment. We reserve the right to remove participants whose behaviour negatively affects the group experience.
