Self-Guided Walking Holidays on Hadrian's Wall

Self-guided walking holidays along Hadrian's Wall for curious walkers who want the freedom to explore while leaving the planning to people who know the area, from the best places to stay and eat to the hidden gems most visitors miss.

Hadrian's Wall is more than a trail. It's the landscapes you walk through, the stories you hear, the places you stay and the people you meet. From welcoming hosts to fellow travellers, it's often the connections made along the way that become the most memorable part of the journey.

Your pace, your day

Start when it suits you, walk as far as you like, and stop whenever something catches your eye. Take time for the views, explore a hidden corner, linger over lunch or simply enjoy being out on the trail. The day is shaped around you, not a timetable.

Smiling hikers on a self-guided trail

Claire was simply amazing. Our walk along Hadrian’s Wall was complex with lots of stops and sightseeing. Claire organised all the logistics - accommodation, route, luggage transfer and buses - with seamless efficiency and perfection. All we had to do was walk! This included a short stay at her own Airbnb - The Parlour - which was a wonderful comfort break in the middle of our trek and allowed us to explore the local area in more depth and re-charge our batteries. She could not have been more helpful or supportive and had an infectious cheerfulness which kept us going across the crags! We cannot recommend Claire highly enough and are just so glad we found her. She could not have done more if she had tried. A truly five star service.

Ready to Walk Your Way?

If you’re dreaming of walking Hadrian’s Wall at your own pace, we’re here to help you shape a route that fits you. From clear planning to local insight, we’ll make sure you feel confident every step of the way.

Self-Guided Walking Holidays FAQs

Can I walk Hadrian’s Wall on my own safely? Yes. Hadrian’s Wall Path is well way-marked and widely walked. Our self-guided routes are planned with safety, transport links, facilities, and realistic daily distances in mind. You’re not left to figure things out alone, and support is available if you need it.

What if I want to change my plans? That’s one of the benefits of going self-guided. You can adjust start times, take longer breaks, or tweak your day as you go. If something bigger needs changing, we’re on hand to help you adapt your route or plans where possible.

Will someone be checking in with me? That depends on the level you choose. Some walkers prefer full independence, others like a bit more reassurance. We’ll be clear about what support is included, and you’ll always know how to reach us if you need help.

Can I do this with no hiking experience? Absolutely. Many people walk Hadrian’s Wall as their first multi-day walk. We design routes based on your experience, pace, and confidence, and provide clear guidance so you know what to expect each day. Plus, we can send you a training plan to help you get ready.

Do I have to book accommodation myself? That depends on the level you choose. We can give you accommodation suggestions so you can book what suits your budget and style or we can handle the accommodation and logistics for you.

What happens if it rains? It probably will at some point, this is Northumberland. We’ll help you plan for changeable weather with kit advice, realistic distances, and flexible routes. If conditions are poor, we can suggest adjustments to keep things comfortable and safe.

Is Hadrian's Wall accessible? Parts of Hadrian’s Wall are uneven, hilly and remote, so not every section is fully accessible. That said, we’re always happy to suggest gentler routes, avoid the toughest terrain where possible and tailor experiences around different needs and abilities. We can also design fully accessible experiences around areas such as Walltown Country Park.
