Claire was simply amazing. Our walk along Hadrian’s Wall was complex with lots of stops and sightseeing. Claire organised all the logistics - accommodation, route, luggage transfer and buses - with seamless efficiency and perfection. All we had to do was walk! This included a short stay at her own Airbnb - The Parlour - which was a wonderful comfort break in the middle of our trek and allowed us to explore the local area in more depth and re-charge our batteries. She could not have been more helpful or supportive and had an infectious cheerfulness which kept us going across the crags! We cannot recommend Claire highly enough and are just so glad we found her. She could not have done more if she had tried.

Self-Guided Walking Holidays FAQs
Can I mix self-guided and guided walking? Yes. You can add a guided day to learn more about the Wall, Roman history and the landscape, then continue independently or we can guide you throughout your holiday.
Can I add rest days or sightseeing days? Absolutely. Vindolanda, Housesteads, Chesters, Hexham and plenty of other places are worth allowing extra time for.

Can Hadrian’s Wall be a luxury walking holiday? Absolutely. You can spend the day walking through wild Northumberland countryside, then finish with a castle stay, a great meal and your luggage waiting for you. We can add private transfers, luxury accommodation and special experiences to make the whole trip feel a little more extraordinary.
What if I become unwell or injured? If you've chosen Gold or Platinum, we'll be on hand to help with practical arrangements, such as organising a taxi, adjusting your route or helping you return to your accommodation. If you're unable to continue your holiday, we'll also manage any necessary cancellations and do our best to recover the cost of unused accommodation. However, refunds depend on each provider's cancellation policy and cannot be guaranteed. Please note that once luggage transfers have started, they cannot be cancelled or refunded.
Do I get to choose my accommodation? Absolutely! You'll be able to choose not just where you stay, but your preferred floor or room too, subject to availability. We'll recommend places that suit your preferences, budget and walking route, from cosy B&Bs and traditional inns to boutique hotels and castles. We know many of the accommodation providers personally and have stayed in plenty of the places we recommend ourselves.
How many days do I need to walk Hadrian’s Wall? Most people take around 6 to 8 walking days for the full route, but we can create anything from a short break to a slower two-week itinerary.
Can you arrange luggage transfers? Yes! We can arrange for your luggage to be transferred between accommodation, leaving you with just your daypack. Luggage transfer arrangements are included in Silver, Gold and Platinum, with the transfer costs charged separately unless otherwise stated. Bronze customers receive information about local luggage transfer services.
What is the arrangement fee? The arrangement fee covers our time, expertise and the work involved in planning and organising your self-guided walking holiday. This includes route planning, local recommendations and the services included in your chosen package. Accommodation, transport, meals and other third-party costs are paid separately. The fee varies depending on your chosen package and the level of support provided.
How difficult is the Hadrian’s Wall Path? It varies enormously. Some sections are gentle and straightforward, while the central crags are much hillier and more demanding. Your itinerary should match your fitness and experience.
How far will I walk each day? That’s entirely up to you. Some walkers are happiest with 6 to 8 miles a day, while others want 15 or more. We build the route around your preferred pace.
What if I need to cancel my holiday? If you've chosen Gold or Platinum, we'll take care of cancelling your arrangements for you. Any refunds will depend on the cancellation policies of the individual accommodation providers and other suppliers. We may be able to recover some or all of your payments, but refunds cannot be guaranteed.
Will I be dealing with a large tour company? No. You’ll deal directly with us. We plan your trip, know the route and work closely with many of the local businesses along the way, so your holiday feels personal from the first email to the final day. If we’re around while you’re walking, we’ll also make a point of popping by to say hello so you can meet us in person.
When is the best time to walk Hadrian’s Wall? Spring through autumn is the main walking season. Each month has its advantages, and we can help you choose based on weather, daylight, availability and how busy you want the trail to be.
Why isn't there one price for everything? Every walking holiday is different, so we provide two separate prices: one for our arrangement fee and one for the rest of your holiday, including accommodation, transport and any additional services. You'll see the full cost of your holiday before deciding whether to go ahead, so there are no surprises. Please note that once the arrangement fee has been paid, it is non-refundable.
Can you organise a holiday for solo walkers? Yes. Self-guided holidays work really well for solo travellers, and we can help with accommodation, transfers and support so you don’t have to organise everything yourself.
