Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be an experienced walker?
No — the route is moderate, though there are some uneven sections. Sturdy shoes are essential, and a headtorch is recommended (we have some available to borrow, including red-lens torches that enhance night vision). Reflective gear is also advised for safety, as there’s a short stretch on the road. Walking poles are available if you’d like extra support.
What if the weather is cloudy?
If skies are overcast, the evening includes a planetarium show at the Twice Brewed Inn, led by Kielder Observatory’s team.
Is transport provided?
This is a meet-at-location tour. Parking is available at the Twice Brewed Inn, in Once Brewed, near Hexham.
What should I bring?
We recommend sturdy shoes or walking boots, a warm layer for the evening, and a headtorch (we can provide one if needed). Red-lens torches are especially useful as they protect night vision while stargazing. Reflective gear is encouraged for safety, as there’s a short stretch on the road. Walking poles are available if you’d like extra support.
Are meals included?
Yes — a hearty supper at the Twice Brewed Inn is part of the tour. Vegetarian options available (please let us know dietary needs in advance).
Can children join?
Yes, but the evening schedule (ending around 10:30 pm) may be better suited to older children and teens.
